Really great hotel, that will be even better in the summer when the pool heats up. If your looking for a day or 2 chilling away from it all this is the place. You may end up waiting a while in Coimbra for a connecting train, if as we did you travel from Lisbon / Porto, but that is a good way to fit more into your day. Coimbra is 5 mins cab ride from the Coimbra B station and there are several very good inexpensive cafes. With regards to the guide books on Buçaco, I felt that the place was a little over sold. The walking is neitrher demanding nor as spectacular as it is sold, but it´s certainly not unpleasant. The palace, now a hotel, is very pretty and has an great looking restaurant and amazing wine cellar. Luso, is rather sleepy and smaller than I had imagined, but your Euro goes a long way. It´s a place to relax and the Hotel Alegre certainly facitlitates that. close
