This place is amazing - it's like a hotel rather than a hostel. Nice to have a small number of beds in the dorms and NO bunks! Lovely bathrooms. Massive common room (and free pool table) well equipped kitchen. Lovely location in a quiet street near the botanic gardens. Staff were great with helpful tips for excursions. I really cannot fault this at all and would definitely recommend staying here if you're in Christchurch. less

The hostel is about 15 min to 20 min walk from the Cathedral Square, depending on your pace, which is both quieter (further from town centre) and noiser (it's situated right next to a school). The owners are generous and friendly, and we had a pleasant stay there. A suggestion is to put in more hooks on the walls to hang clothing. We stayed in a spacious twin private room, which is a nice change from the usual cramped rooms in most hostels. less

Very friendly and helpful staff, really easy people and going not only for the extra mile but for another mile and another one...well you got the idea. Big minus, the rooms were really not clean.
Clothes everywhere on the floor, the living room stank a bit, the bathroom was really dirty.

We have stayed in some fantastic hostels in NZ, but this wasn't one of them. Whilst everything looked ok at first glance we later found that the kitchen was filthy (we had to clean the grime from shelf in the fridge before we could put our food in and the floors were dirty. The bathroom was only cleaned on one occasion out of the 3 days we stayed there and there was no hand soap anywhere. In addition the people next to us walked & smoked out on the flat roof right outside our bedroom window. less
