Great hostel. Amazing location and very friendly staff. Only downfall was most of the people staying there are the staff and they treat the rooms as though they are their bedrooms and visitors feel like they are intruding. After spending a week in the affiliated Castle Rock Hostel, the High Street Hostel felt small, old, and cramped in comparison. Though the building itself isn't great, the staff was very helpful, they keep the premises very clean, and the location is ideal - just steps off the Royal Mile. A good choice if you want to stay right in the middle of things and are okay giving up some elbow room to do so. less

I spent there one night with my family, 46 and 55 years old, who came to Edinburgh with a very short visit. Staff was very helpful and nice. We had our return flight late night and they let us leave our backpacks in a luggage storage, for free, for additional 16 hours after we left the room. I would recommend that hostel to everyone. BTW - breakfast was delicious! less
