The rooms are clean, spacious, and lovely. It's a great plus that guests can use the nearby public bath for free. The staff were very helpful and kind. The directions on this site were not actually very useful. We asked at the tourist information office by the station and they pointed us in the right direction. less

Slightly run-down.
Rooms very good size and spacious, though the sleeping futons are too thin for westerners (extra futons and pillows in the wardrobes, so i suggest you layer-up).
Water in hot spring baths fluctuated in temperature from day to day, never very hot, water in room taps was luke-warm.
Most of the staff helpful, except the main desk manager who avoided helping us (but happy to help japanese guests).
Japanese breakfast is great.
Rats/birds scurry in the roofspace at night. less
