It's obvious the owner has made the best of what is available, but the down point for us was the noise. The walls and floors are so thin you hear everything around you. Including being woken at 7 (6 one day) every morning by showers, toilets, doors, banging and loud talking from residents getting up for work. Also the beds mattress was very hard. We had a great few nights at Hakkas Guesthouse. The owner Kevin is a helpful and polite and a great host. The rooms are a good size for HK and cleaned daily to a very good standard. I am very pleased with my 6 day stay in Hakkas Guesthouse. Since this was my second visit , i am able to compare my stay in other hostel before . I recommend hostelworld travellers friends to stay in the Hakkas Guesthouse because it fullfill all the 6 rating as my assesment above. Location is great because MTR is just below you. In the night it was too loud and we asked next day for another room. The next room was better {with window}. There are a lot of other guesthouses in this biulding, try to find another. Chung King Mansion is not a nice area. It is dirty and it is likely that there are prostitutes in the building. The neighborhood is all about the same. This building is the cheapest, and if youre on a serious budget i suppose its liveable for a couple of nights, but I wouldnt go alone. They booted me off to a building opposite the road, with the lounge located five floors away and NO reception. I didnt SEE any staff at all. The single room is as big as my loo, but apparently that's HK for you. But seriously... no "feel" for the hostel environment. Nice clean hostel, the layout is weird with it not really feeling like a hostel. reception was on the 5th floor and my room ont he 15th. There is no common room so it's difficult to meet people and not a very exciting place to stay. clean and safe which is great, location good as it's right next to mrt. would probably stay in a busier hostel next time. less
