Although a bit outside of the main area of Kolkata it was a great place to escape to at the end of the day. Tha staff was outstanding. We arrived a day early and although they were completely booked they offered us a suite at the price of the standard room we had reserved and spared us having to roam the streets of Kolkata in search of a place to stay. Definitely would recommend this place to absolutely everyone thinking about heading to this city. close

Good value for money, but be aware that taxi drivers dont always know the area, you have to ask a couple. The area itself is okay, not dangerous and the hotel is gated anyway. close

It\'s prob one of the best kept secrets in busy Kolkata. Having already spent USD100 per night in a noisy \'3-star\' hotel along mirza ghalib rd for 3 nights before shifting to the Best Inn, I was immediately impressed by the quality of the decor, the quaintness of the location and most importantly, the quietness of the place! It was welcome relief from the blaring horns and road noise that i had to endure for 4 days and 3 nights. The room is clean and the charges are very reasonable - 1800 rupees for a twin room per night, with complimentary breakfast. That\'s less than USD50!
Finding the hotel itself can be quite a challenge because the address is a small street off the main road, and it\'s not a famous one. If u intend to get to the hotel directly from the airport, printing out the directions from the hotel website will prove useful. Alternatively, tell the cab driver \'homeland mall\' and direct him to \'police hospital\' off A. Murkhajee road. Be warned that not all cab drivers are conversant with English, so make sure he understands u before driving off. It takes about half hour to get into city from the airport.
Hotel staff in Calcutta are generally helpful and polite, whichever the location. As the Best Inn does not have a full in-house kitchen, i obtained directions for the good restaurants within walking distance. The \'gupta brothers\' and \'lazeez\' restaurants were nearby, excellent and safe. The prices were very reasonable (compared to the \'hotel\' food that i ate for the first 3 days). The standard city attractions such as St Paul’s church and Victoria memorial were also within a 10minute brisk wall.
Best of all, there was this little gem of a cafe cum shisha bar that i discovered by chance. It\'s located right at the doorstep of the Best Inn, in the Homeland Mall! This pleasant chill out place is called the \'PAI Cafe\' and it had only been opened for about a month. Hence, generally no big crowd - nice and quiet. You can get a perky long black from an espresso machine for only 25 rupees, with free biscuits thrown in. The shisha starts at 125 rupees, and it\'s smoked from a separate, cozy section of the cafe where air purifiers suck up the smoke so that non-smokers are not offended. U can also have your lunch there with its decent menu. There\'re also the standard cakes, brownies, ice-cream, etc - just like in any established coffee joint like starbuck\'s or coffee bean. I enjoyed it so much that i stayed for an entire afternoon at the cafe reading my book and drinking coffee. Only shortcoming - no wifi internet acccess. But I’m sure it\'ll come online when it\'s fully established. They close at 10pm, according to the helpful waiters.
I had a great time, and my conclusion: The Best Inn and the pai cafe - highly recommmended.
