Close to some of the major sites, but a bit far from downtown. A traditional and modest Japanese guesthouse, but that's part of the charm. Rent a bike and tour the city! The owner is incredibly helpful in giving detailed directions to anywhere you want to go, and will suggest interesting things to do along the way. less

A fabulous place, despite the obvious drawback of the 'lock out' time. The staff spoke very little English but that's not their fault - I should have tried more japanese. They were especially friendly and welcoming and the place was spotless. If you want authentic and tidy, it's the place. Enjoy. less

Very nice hostel. The only negatives would be that it was a little noisy in the hallway outside of my room. Lots of echos from people talking, walking, closing doors. Also, my room smelled a little bit like feet, but not a big deal. Overall, I was very happy with my stay. less

Loved! So cute, so friendly, so charming, felt safe & welcomed. Kimono-wearing, english-speaking staff. Traditional style, tatami and crisp white sheets. Decently comfortable futons. Lovely common area and little gardens. Best by far of the four places I stayed in Kyoto. Location good because close to Kyoto station transport hub, but not most happening neighborhood. Quaint safe little street. Would go back and stay happily! reserve in advance. less
