We turned up at the time agreed on Christmas Eve.We rang,we knocked,we telephoned. We went away for an hour (lucky we had a car as the little town was whisper dead)came back and tried again.Still no luck.We can't blame the hostel as they may not have received the booking confirmation via 'HostelWorld'.But,it does peeve you,a hell of a lot, after you have just driven 511 miles and look forward to a place to kick back, have a drink, some food and a place to relax and the 'Inn is not open',except for a yelping dog barking at you from the other side of the door,in the middle of Poland,on sheet ice ridden roads.Lodz was the only alternative we had for a place to stay (not the most attractive of cities) and had to 'bribe' someone to look after our car because they have huge car crimes in the area, which we knew about anyway, but all added to the frustration of the moment! If you backpack please be aware, that Tuszyn, has little to offer as a town, and you need to head into the city of Lodz for 'life' or head east to Radom,Pulawy,Lublin and the Kazimierz Dolny region to experience that something little extra that Poland has to offer.
