Palmer's Lodge is a great hostel. The location is good and the staff is friendly and very helpful. The bar is cheap and has a nice atmosphere with a cool little patio out back. The free breakfast in the morning is fine. Your choice of a coffee or latte, croissants, toast and cereal. Or you can pay 4 pounds for a plate with eggs, bacon, sausage, baked beans and hashbrowns. This place was in a good location for me, and very clean. The bed was a little hard, but I went to sleep anyway. My one gripe was that although there were pans and crockery in the kitchen there was NO CUTLERY!! Even plastic would have been better than nothing!
Staff seemed a bit 'helpless' about it and vaguely seemed to agree that it was perhaps because 'they' are worried that I might use a knife to kill someone. Is this health and safety gone mad!?! lessmpiconparedes9702 (Novice Nomad from Spain), September 2009:

We stayed here as we were getting the Eurostar early the next morning. The location is perfect- opposite Kings Cross and next door to a pub. The entrance and the foyer are nice and the rooms are decent enough. It was clean enough too. Not the best hostel I've ever stayed in but defo better than some of the other ones I've stayed in in London! I would stay here purely for the location if you need to be near to the train station less

The facilities at this hostel were great with nice clean rooms, good wifi and functioning kitchen etc. It is located in a nice area, but there isn\'t much (tube,bars,sights etc.) around it. Staff are also pretty self-absorbed and don\'t make you feel too welcome when they get wasted in the lounge and blare bad music at deafening levels; but they think they\'re pretty awesome so what do I know. lessnika129sf2682 (Avid Traveller from USA), November 2009:

This is a school dormitory and is available to rent over the universities summer break. The room was clean, i felt safe and my stuff was safe. The reception were helpful and the staff friendly. Th continental breakfast everyday was amazing. It was a good area too with plenty of theatres, bars, pubs and clubs around. One thing, if your travelling alone, as I was, LSE is not a very exciting place. If you want a crazy time with other travellers, go elsewhere! If you want priceless security, stay! less
