The best hostel i have stayed in so far on my travels. Would recommend to anyone after a relaxing base for a visit to melbourne. Bob the owner was so helpful, although its perhaps not the place if you want to party, but if you are after meeting people the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly.

Overall had no problem staying here. Was close to the west richmond train which got you straight into the city and buses down to st kilda. Bob the hostel owner was a nice enough fella although he went a little overboard with his lavenda spray, used it like some kind of disinfectant and was very overpowering in the room and hallways. This is not the place to stay if you looking for a party and to meet people but it was decent cheap accomodation close to the city. less

Cheap hostel compared to other hostels in Melbourne and ok but not worth 87%. Lot of long-termers and the rooms are clean. Facilities are a bit old but still work. This is a good hostel if u want to stay in Melbourne for a longer period and you want to meet some people to have a beer with, otherwise you'd probably be better off somewhere else. less

I would not recommend this hostel. First because there is no particular places to meet people, no lounge, no big kitchen or cinema/tv room. Secondly, I have been bitten by fleas on the first night, and I have been scratching my legs and arms for the past 6 days! I know they have been spraying all rooms since then, but this is one of the first things you would like to avoid in a hostel! Finally, the rooms are quite small compared to other hostels such as Adelaide and Sydney YHA Centrals. less

The Nunnery is cosy and has a great vibe about it - staff are friendly and helpful and the free popcorn, ice cream and bbq is a bonus! Location also good, just a quick tram ride into city and located near loads of funky shops and restaurants. The only down side is that bedrooms could be cleaner - bathroom's especially were quite dirty - and it is a bit pricey at $30. I would stay there again though. less

The location even though in st kilda is not really that close to the beach or the main street. The tram is basically right in front. the tram frequency however is not the greatest especially on the weekend! The place is clean, well maintained and the staff are nice. less

I was VERY dissappointed when a staff member told me \'I was lucky to still have a booking with them\'. This occured because I did not show up one of the nights I had booked, despite being told I would be charged the full amount for the room if I gave less than 24hrs notice and would not be refunded any booking fees (good money earner). The \'telling off\' felt like they thought they were talking to a child. If there is a chance the hostel may cancel a booking they should let us know before we book less

The Claremont Guesthouse is in a perfect location next to the train station, right next to Chapel St (great shopping) and there is a tram stop right outside. The city is only 2 stops away on the train. The building is awesome. Most of the bathrooms have been renovated and the beds are comfy. If you are wanting to meet people and party then this wouldn't be the hostel you are looking for but if you are looking for a quiet, comfortable stay I highly recommend this spot. less

This hostel is PERFECT for those who arent necessarily after a party hostel. But even if you are, it's on Toorak St, 2 mins away from Chapel St and there is plenty of socialising there. It's clean, EASY to reach, close to all kinds of transport, the staff were fantastic and the small details meant the world - full length mirrors, a desk, a fan, a tv, and coathangers. All make it more than a hostel. I won't stay anywhere else in Melbourne. less
