I would not recommend this hostel. First because there is no particular places to meet people, no lounge, no big kitchen or cinema/tv room. Secondly, I have been bitten by fleas on the first night, and I have been scratching my legs and arms for the past 6 days! I know they have been spraying all rooms since then, but this is one of the first things you would like to avoid in a hostel! Finally, the rooms are quite small compared to other hostels such as Adelaide and Sydney YHA Centrals. less

Metal bed-frames (yay no bed-bugs), lockers in rooms, card-swipe doors, big shared bathrooms with plenty of showers, showers stainless steel (v clean), shower cubicles have partition between shower and area to put clothes etc (so clothes stay dry, yay) and wooden mat-thing to keep feet dry when changing. Overall v clean. Close to Victoria Markets, walking distance to city unless you're lazy like me in which case it's only a few trams stops to collins or bourke. all in all, thumbs u less

Overall a good backpackers, great location and fantastic building. would recommend not getting a room 2 or 3 near the entrance if your looking for a quite night as people talk outside the door until 2am some nights. Also the kitchen closing and opening throughout the day is a bit of a pain! I had a good stay. less

Old Hostel in quiet, dark lane way with parking station beside-no view from room.Preferred to walk in from Spring st(parliament house stop)Trams run along this st.Rooftop terrace was a good sitting area in sun but had to tidy all the chairs to make it feel comfortable.Ashtrays left full of butts & bottles left on ground by other guests. Dirty dishes & cutlery left in sink & not washed. No inside sitting or eating area when weather is cold. Rooms small but clean & warm. Beds comfy. Staff pleasant. less

Great place, great people. Literally a 10 second walk from the tram that takes you from St Kilda to CBD, and that tram runs every 3 minutes or so all day and is navigatible by the most directionally challenged. This hostel is pretty good. The atmosphere is definitely a party one. Although, I didn't have the trouble sleeping that everyone else did. The only problem is that a lot of things were ridiculously over priced. I had thought that I lost my keycard, and they were going to charge me $20.00 for it (which is outrageous.) Also, the internet is pretty steep too. Overall though, it was a good atmosphere and being next to the beach was great. I'd definitely stay next time if budget allows. less

I was VERY dissappointed when a staff member told me \'I was lucky to still have a booking with them\'. This occured because I did not show up one of the nights I had booked, despite being told I would be charged the full amount for the room if I gave less than 24hrs notice and would not be refunded any booking fees (good money earner). The \'telling off\' felt like they thought they were talking to a child. If there is a chance the hostel may cancel a booking they should let us know before we book less

I'm sure some people would like this type of place, but for me it was way too noisy and uncomfortable. Couldn't sleep at all. Facilities were poor, iron in room had goo on it (and no ironing board). Could have stayed in a hotel for a similar price, so probably will next time. less

This hostel is PERFECT for those who arent necessarily after a party hostel. But even if you are, it's on Toorak St, 2 mins away from Chapel St and there is plenty of socialising there. It's clean, EASY to reach, close to all kinds of transport, the staff were fantastic and the small details meant the world - full length mirrors, a desk, a fan, a tv, and coathangers. All make it more than a hostel. I won't stay anywhere else in Melbourne. less
