Lucky D's was an interesting place that was very comfortable for the most part. The weekends become a frat party for the Marine Corps though so be warned. The staff were OK for the most part but I did think the hostel lacks a good open area. It felt kind of claustrophobic and it kind of stymies the conversation. The beds were really good. It was generally clean. I would recommend this hostel. less

We found the beds to be very noisy double on the bottom and single on the top every time some one moved there was a lot of noise. The help youself breakfast was good and all facilities were very handy, but being older than most guests we found our room very noisy as it overlooked a busy street and the talking crossing went all night, less

More like point Lameo. stayed on a tuesday - average age of guest was 40 years. The hostel has a small children's play area, and does not allow alcohol on the premises. the main drag (Newport) features many homeless people, but does have a lot of bars. Recommend staying a Pacific Beach, or downtown (Gaslamp). less

Great location, gorgeous art-deco building and spotlessly clean - ive never seen a hostel with so many cleaners! I paid for a dorm and had the whole room to myself. Didnt like that there was a roof immediately below the window which didnt lock. Little social space, and nothing really arranged by the hostel. VERY expensive internet. Would probably stay again less

fantastic party hostel, right near the beach, watching the sunset every night is amazing.staff are not nearly as good as they were when i came here last year, They added 2 the asmosphere of the place and made it more enjoyable, now not so much. We didnt have a lock on our door and everyone was always coming into our room to use our bathroom bcos it was near reception and the kitchen. If u want a good time and dont care about getting a good nights sleep and pretty bad kitchen/bathroom facil less
