About Backpackers Inn - Freo

The hostel is right in the centre of Freo and it's just a few minutes walk to all the attractions, or to the station if you want to visit Perth.

Fremantle YHA has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There are areas to enjoy meeting others and exchange adventures, or a quiet room to sit and read. Other backpackers facilities include a pool table, table tennis, big screen movie nights and BBQ nights.

Fremantle is one of Australia's 'must see' destinations. This historic port has been beautifully restored to its 19th-century splendour. The activities are endless, with the traditional markets, buskers, cappuccino strip. Our staff can help you with any sights or the booking of tours.

While many people have heard about YHA, unless you've stayed in one before you probably have a few questions.

So let's get a few things straight. YHA hostels have no age limit. While the vast majority of our visitors are a mixed bunch of young, independent travellers from Australia and the rest of the world, our doors are open to members of all ages. In fact, our doors are open 24 hours at all YHAs in Australia. Members of all Hostelling International associations from around the world are welcome. And if you aren't a HI member, don't worry, it's simple to arrange international membership on arrival at the hostel.

YHA Ratings

All YHAs must meet a set of basic criteria to ensure that your stay is not only great fun, but safe and comfortable as well. Every hostel is inspected regularly, so we know that we can stand behind our promise of providing a laid back experience without compromising on safety, security and comfort.

You can be guaranteed that every YHA hostel in Australia:
• Meets all state and local government regulations regarding fire, health and safety codes
• Provides a self catering kitchen so you can cook up a storm
• Offers 24 hour access, important for those late nights out on the town
• Provides communal areas to chill out and mingle
• Has an above average ratio of showers and toilets to guest numbers
• Is clean, well maintained and appealing

Our grading system rates our hostels according to the level of facilities they offer - not the social scene they offer! In fact, some of our smaller, more remote hostels have the best reputation. Ask around.
