Whether expected or sudden, breakups can leave you depressed and blue. What better way to kick off a new beginning than with a crazy (or tranquil) adventure? For those looking to leave their past behind, Hostelworld.com has put together its top destinations for letting loose post-breakup. So gather up some good friends (or even go solo!) and embark on an all-about-you getaway to one of these super-fun or ultra relaxing destinations.

    Las Vegas

Of course, what better distraction than a girls or guys-only trip to Sin City! Here, visitors can find gambling, drinking, and random adventure with a “see where the night takes us” attitude. After a few nights of partying, wind down with golf, a spa trip, museum tour, or show. Even the shows in Vegas offer an array of options, from burlesque, to comedy, to magic.

Freebies: Because casinos are in such fierce competition with each other, they are willing to spend lots of money on free attractions. Look out for attractions such as laser light and water shows, wildlife habitats, and circus acts.

    New York City

It’s hard to find a dull moment in the city that never sleeps. In NYC, there are endless options for clubbing, sight-seeing, museums, shopping, dining and other entertainment, including the famous Broadway stage.

Freebies: There are tons of free and low-cost things to do in NYC, including tickets to be in the studio audience of a New York-based television show, thought-provoking exhibitions at the breathtaking, beaux arts New York Public Library, and concerts, outdoor movies and other special events in the adjacent Bryant Park.

    New Orleans

Rich in history and spirit, the Big Easy offers cultural attractions as well as hot spots such as Harrah’s Casino, Bourbon Street, and Uptown New Orleans, which features cool bars, great restaurants, and dance clubs, all fifteen minutes from Downtown New Orleans.

Freebies: New Orleans has one of the best, if not THE best, free party on earth - Mardi Gras! However, if your trip doesn’t coincide with this celebration, free activities include crashing the Frenchmen Street clubs with no cover charge, taking in live music near the Joan of Arc Statue on Decatur Street, and exploring Royal and Chartres streets while window shopping the arts, antiques and boutiques.

    South Beach, Miami, FL

Leave the moping doldrums behind and enjoy the clear blue waters and unique art deco landscape of South Beach. Upon arrival, people-watch and get a bite to eat on Lincoln Road, full of stores, boutiques, art galleries, and museums. Next, of course, hit the beach! After a long day of soaking up the sun, head over to Ocean Drive, where even celebrities like to let loose in famous clubs such as The Clevelander, Club Deep, and Nikki Beach Club.

Freebies: One of the most relaxing things to do at this tropical location is to simply lay out on the beach. Kick back and enjoy a little R&R!

    Saint Lucia

Let your lonely worries melt away at this beautiful Caribbean island. Try a spot of whale-watching or simply wander from one idyllic beach to the next. For some more adventure, experience a bird’s eye view of the rainforest on a zip-line. What a rush!

Freebies: Again, one of the best things to do at this destination is to simply relax and take in the amazing views and tropical environment. Lose track of reality while taking advantage of the island paradise!
