On Thursday evening last (that’s the 18th of February) there was a ‘braai’ here in Johannesburg Backpackers. ‘Braai’ is South African (well, Afrikaans really) for barbecue. The reason for this? It was one of the guest’s birthday, Thera.
Festivities began at around 8pm. Among others there was the birthday girl’s boyfriend, Casper, a South African guy Martin (he cooked all the meat), Katie and Janelle, an English and Aussie girl, and lots of staff from the hostel.
I ate a lot of meat. Lots. I also played guitar hero for the first time, and invented a shot. I called it the Kaizer Chief. It wasn’t very nice if I’m honest. But then what shots are? Anyway, it was a good night but I had ‘a bit of a head on me’ the next day as we’d say back home.
