When you see photographs of Chicago, its focal point is one of two skyscrapers. The first one is the Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower). The other is the John Hancock Center. It also has an observatory tower, imaginatively called John Hancock Observatory.
It boasts two things the Willis Tower doesn’t. Firstly, it offers great views of the Willis Tower. Secondly, the views of the lake are better from up there. So my advice is this – if you’ve got the money, visit both. If you don’t though, stick with the Willis Tower solely for ‘The Ledge’ part.
After a quick visit to the United Center where the Chicago Bulls play, and Wicker Park to see what it’s like during the day, I went for an authentic deep-dish pizza in Lou Malnati’s in the South Loop. One of many restaurants, they date back to 1971. I went there after somebody advised it on Twitter. I’m glad somebody did as it was glorious.
Before finishing off this post I’d like to say a big thank you Tamara from HI Chicago who helped me do my ‘piece-to-cameras’ for the “10 things Chicago” video. Thanks for coming round the city with me and also for your patience ;-)
