Our photo of the day is a street with signage jutting out from all angles in Hong Kong. Walking around the streets of Kowloon or Mongkok, this is a familiar scene.

After three and half years of working for Hostelworld.com, I’m heading off on a wee trip. This time next month, I shall be winging my way to Singapore and from there I’ll be heading to New Zealand, where I’ll be living in Dunedin for a year. For my last post, Colm asked me to talk about some of my favourite things from the last few years. So, here goes...

Our photo of the day is of a not so shy giraffe in Hluhluwe Game Reserve just outside Durban in South Africa. Taken at around midday, the day began way before that at 5am. It's when you've the best chance of seeing the 'Big 5' - rhino, buffalo, lion, elephant and leopard. We saw four of the five that weekend, but missing one didn't leave disappointed. Along with the giraffe in this shot I saw zebra, hyena and more.

Most cities have them - quirky neighbourhoods. Sydney's is Newtown, Copenhagen's is Christiana and New York City's is the East Village. London's? That would be Camden. There's always something going on in this iconic part of London. Make your way up there (it's on the Northern Line which is the black one on the Tube map) and you can explore the markets, grab a bite to eat, visit the bar and more.

Our photo of the day is the breathtaking St Mary's Basilica in Krakow's main square Rynek Glowny. It's inevitable that you'll end up here during your stay in Krakow - everybody does. You can see why. Aside from this building it's got one of the city's most famous markets and it's a great meeting point.

My favourite thing about Montreal is its wonderful collection of neighbourhoods, from Plateau Mont Royal to Little Italy to the Village to the Latin Quarter. All of these areas have a totally unique atmosphere, coming together to make Montreal one of the coolest cities in Canada.

Something I end up doing everywhere I go is walking. Whether it be on a trail to Machu Picchu or from block to block in Manhattan, I always end up doing lots of it when on the road. This isn’t a bad thing of course – you get to see much more this way than by using public transport. Some of my favourite walks are in the UK, and in this weekend’s Telegraph newspaper there’s a free supplement outlining fifty of the best ones.

Warsaw is one of my favourite cities in Eastern Europe. I loved wandering around the city to check out all the attractions, including the Palace of Culture and Science or Palac Kultury I Nauki w Warszawie, pictured here. This huge building is one of the best places to get amazing views of the city, so grab your camera and head up to the viewing terrace on the 30th floor.
