A trip to a hawker center is an absolute must when visiting Singapore. In these open-air food courts, you can take part in an experience near and dear to every Singaporean - eating. For Singaporeans don't just love to eat...they live to eat - and with a cultural diversity like theirs, who can blame them? In these hawker centers you can easily find dishes influenced by a variety of cuisines, from fish noodles and roti prata to nasi goreng and pad thai. A walk through a hawker center can feel like a culinary tour through Asia, just with a Singaporean twist.

It did stop though, and we went on to get some great pictures.

Scooters weave amongst them, and the smell of fried garlic and chilli, petrol and sweat emanates from every corner. It’s hectic, hedonistic and loud, but I loved it. It may not be off the beaten track, but it’s a track that’s hard to beat.

Last month I found myself in Rome with four hours to spare. I arrived at 2pm and was leaving for the aiport at 6pm. I decided that since we've lots of hostels in Rome, I would call into one of them (M&J Hostel to see the manager Mario) before embarking on a whirlwind tour of downtown Rome, taking in as much sights as possible.
