This morning I flew from Dublin to London and then from London to Split, a beautiful city on the coast of Croatia. I'm going to be spending a few days here collecting information, images and video.
When I arrived in Split, I was met by Andro who drove me into the city. He’s a friend of Dora, the owner of Old Town Hostel Split, which is where I’m staying during my trip. As you can see from the picture, I have a great room. Dora and Brendan at the hostel have been really helpful, giving me lots of great tips about where to eat and drink in the city. I’m looking forward to trying out lots of their suggestions over the coming days.
Once I’d gotten settled in the hostel and gone over everything with Dora, I set out to do a little exploring and get some dinner. The hostel is located within the walls of Split’s famous Diocletian's Palace which is a total warren of narrow, cobbled streets filled with restaurants, bars and shops. There were lots of people wandering around this evening, making the most of the beautiful weather.
I made my way down to ‘Riva’ which is the city’s hugely popular promenade and took some pictures. Then it was off to find somewhere for dinner. I chose Buffet Fife on Trumbiceva Obala where I was seated at a shared bench table outside the restaurant. I ordered calamari and fries and couldn’t believe how big the portions were when they brought everything out. Delicious and very reasonably priced, definitely a good start to my time in Split.
Tomorrow, I’m off on a self-guided walking tour around the city which should bring me to lots of the sights including the Main Square, the Cathedral and plenty more!
