After taking two trains, I arrived in Ottawa today from Quebec City. Here in Ottawa I’m staying at the HI-Ottawa Jail Hostel which is housed in a building that operated as a jail for more than 100 years.
Once I had my stuff stored away, I headed back down to have a chat with the guys at reception about the city. I got some great tips from them covering bars, restaurants, neighbourhoods and more.
One of the places they recommended for dinner was The Works, a gourmet burger bar on the part of Bank Street that runs through the Glebe neighbourhood. This is a really cool area and it’s home to a great variety of shops, restaurants, coffee shops and bars (I’ll talk a little more about a couple of those bars in my next post).
At The Works you’ll find a huge selection of toppings to choose from to go on your beef, chicken, veggie, mushroom or elk burger. They also do a selection of sides including onion ring towers and mouth-watering sweet potato fries.
As you can see here the portions of everything are quite generous, including the drinks. Yes, that is my drink in the right hand corner of the picture and yes it was served up in a pyrex jug, which I thought was a really cool idea.
After dinner, I wandered around taking some night shots and then went on to check out some of Ottawa’s nightlife.
