An early flight this morning got me to Liverpool with the entire day stretching before me. I’m staying at Hatters Hostel here in Liverpool and, where I have a pretty sweet room! The view is amazing too as I’m up on the 5th floor! After getting my stuff squared away, I went down to reception and had a chat with Chris and Paul. They gave me some great recommendations for bars and restaurants but I’ll get to those in my next post.
I started my exploration of Liverpool at the Metropolitan Cathedral. It’s really, really impressive inside with a huge dome covered in colourful stained glass. It’s free to get into too, which is always appreciated. From there I headed towards St. Georges Hall and the Walker Gallery. I have to head back that way tomorrow hopefully to check out the World Museum Liverpool which is right next door!
On the way to record my first podcast, I checked out some of the shopping areas of the city. I had a look around the huge Liverpool ONE complex, strolled down the pedestrianised Church Street and checked out the Metquarter.
My podcast interview was on Chapel Street and to get there I had to pass through the Cavern Quarter. This is a really cool part of the city. Here you’ll find the Cavern Club, which you could argue is one of the most important venues in rock history, as it was here that the Beatles started out!
From there, it was down to the Liverpool FC headquarters where I met Tom Cassidy who recorded an interview with me about the Liverpool FC Stadium Tour which I’m going to take on Wednesday! Our outdoor interview was interrupted by the arrival of a big shower of rain but Tom was more than happy to re-record it with me in a dryer area! It turned out well and when I get back I’ll be including it in an ‘Only in Liverpool’ podcast which you’ll be able to listen to with all our other Hostelworld.com podcasts.
