  1. Bookings affected by Christchurch, New Zealand being refunded

posted by Colm Hanratty | 0 Comments

Last night at round 12.30am I noticed a tweet in my Twitter feed by Matthew Kyhnn aka ‘Backpacking Matt’, a travel blogger based in Queenstown, New Zealand. It read 'Just felt another big aftershock in Queenstown'. Then I began to notice other tweets reporting on the earthquake. It seemed that just over five months since the first earthquake back in September 2010, Christchurch was hit again.

At this stage there was no footage from Christchurch on the news channels. But today I’ve seen terrifying images from one of the southern hemisphere’s most quaint and charming cities. Images of buildings crumbling to the ground and people frightened for their lives. The images are particularly saddening for me as I was only there less than three months ago. Seeing the city’s famous Christchurch Cathedral in ruins today was awful.

So today at Hostelworld.com we’ve been discussing what about those people who have had their bookings affected by this tragedy. If you are one of the unfortunates whose booking has been affected we can assure you that it will be refunded. If you have a query please email customerservice@hostelworld.com or visit our customer service page.

To keep up to date with what’s happening with in Christchurch visit the official Canterbury Earthquake website. And if you want to make a donation you can do so on the New Zealand Red Cross website.
