The Nice Carnival, also known as Le Carnaval de Nice, is one of the most spectacular carnivals in world. It’s already in full swing, with the Nice Carnival 2011 taking place from February 18th-March 8th.
More than 1,000 musicians and dancers from around the world are taking part in the spectacular processions gracing Nice’s famous Place Masséna during Carnival. These parades are made up of 20 different floats, all keeping to the 2011 Nice Carnival theme, ‘King of the Mediterranean’.
As well as the elaborate costumes and magnificent parades, you’ll find plenty more to enjoy during the Nice Carnival including the famous ‘flower battles’ taking place on the Promenade des Anglais. Showers of colourful flowers fall like rain on the waiting crowd during this unique event. What’s more, a big percentage of the beautiful blooms used in these displays are produced locally.
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay during the Nice Carnival, keep in mind that the Villa Saint Exupery Gardens is offering a Carnival special. Book 4 nights at the Villa during Carnival and you’ll get a 5th night free.
