If you're coming to Ireland for Easter, you might have heard (and if not you're about to) that the pubs are closed nationwide for the day. But this year things will be different as it has just been confirmed that certain pubs will be permitted to sell alcohol in Limerick on the day.
Why is this? Well, this year on Good Friday, Munster rugby team are playing against arch rivals Leinster (both 'Munster' and 'Leinster' are provinces in Ireland). As the game is being played at Thomond Park in Limerick, and as Limerick is the capital of Munster, a court has just granted these pubs to sell alcohol on the day...something that never happens in Ireland! The match is being seen as a 'special event' you see.
The pubs will open at 6pm and will remain open until 11.30pm, with the match starting at 8.05pm.
So if you're planning a trip to the Emerald Isle this Easter, and want to sip on a pint of the black stuff (Guinness) and experience the famous 'craic agus ceol' (good natured fun and music) Limerick is where to go. And luckily for you, we've got lots of hostels in Limerick.
In our hostelworld.com travel blog we bring you all the latest company news and information on new additions to the site including podcasts, videos and more. You'll also get inside information on a variety of destinations across the globe as they're visited by our travel editor and writers.
