If you’re looking to visit a food or beer festival in North America this summer then be prepared for from seriously mouth-watering options. From Lobster festivals to Beer Weeks, we’ve checked out what’s on offer in the coming months and put together our top 10. We just wish we could go to every one of them and get sampling...
1. Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Aspen: June 15th – 17th
Join some of the world’s most revered winemakers and chefs in the breathtaking setting of Aspen Mountain this June for the Food and Wine Classic. 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of America’s top culinary event and the weekend will be packed full great food, celebrities, talented chefs, knowledgeable winemakers and plenty of avid food fanatics and wine connoisseurs. Highlights of the weekend will include a concert featuring Elvis Costello & The Blue Beguilers, a 5K Charity Run with Bobby Flay and a Late-night Dessert Bash hosted by chef Gail Simmons.
2. Brooklyn Waterfront Beer Fest, Brooklyn, New York: June 16th
The Brooklyn Waterfront Craft & Specialty Beer Festival takes place outdoors this summer on the Brooklyn waterfront in a setting that allows for some stunning views of the Manhattan skyline. Spend the day celebrating this summer beer experience by sampling some of the finest craft and speciality beers from all over the world. There’ll also be some great food on offer, music and a chance to question the many brewers.
3. San Diego International Beer Festival, San Diego: June 22nd – 24th
This year marks the 6th annual San Diego International Beer Festival and in just this short life-span it has managed to become one of the largest beer festivals in the USA. If you’re attending this year you will be met with up to 140 breweries and close to 300 beers from all over the world... Will you try them all?
4. Session Craft Beer Fest, Toronto: June 23rd
This fun filled day out in Toronto originally started as the final party for Ontario Craft Beer Week. Today it’s one of the most popular days for beer enthusiasts from both Toronto and across Canada. This year’s event promises over 100 different beers, a great selection of food and snacks, music, comedy and an atmosphere that only comes around once a year.
5. Taste of the Nation, Miami: July 19th
By attending Miami’s premier food event you are not only paying to sample some mouth-watering cuisine, but you will also be donating to an important charity. This year, the Share our Strength’s Taste of the Nation events that are running across the USA are dedicated to ensuring that no child in America grows up hungry. This year’s Miami Taste of the Nation is its 25th anniversary and will bring together the finest representatives of modern American cuisine. Patrons will be guaranteed a night full of gourmet food and fine wine.
6. Oregon Brew Fest, Portland: July 26th – 28th
Get to Oregon this July to celebrate 25 years of American Craft Beer. This event offers over 80 different craft beers from all over the country and is the perfect place to spend a sunny summer day with some friends. The Brew Fest takes place along the banks of the Willamette River with the Portland skyline in the backdrop. There will be a whole host of beers on offer here from Belgian to stout.
7. Outside Lands, San Francisco: August 10th – 12th
This San Francisco festival really does have something for everyone – music, food, wine, beer and art. Set in the historic Golden Park, this annual event runs for three days and is an amazing event. What will you find here? Well, there’s the Taste of the Bay which has a great selection of local restaurants cooking up a storm, and then there’s the Wine Lands which showcases over 30 wineries and gives you a chance to talk to the winemakers. Also, you get to enjoy all this food and wine listening to artists such as Metallica, Stevie Wonder and the Foo Fighters to name but a few.
8. Key West Lobster Fest, Key West: August 10th – August 12th
If you’re a fan of lobster then you better get planning a trip to Key West this August. You can expect three staple things at this event – Live music, cold drinks and lots of fresh lobster. This annual event in Florida’s Key West marks the official opening of Lobster Season and every years thousands join in on the celebrations. Over the three days there will be lots on offer including a Duval Crawl (pub crawl), a free concert and a mouth-watering Sunday brunch.
9. DC Beer Week, Washington DC: August 12th – 18th
Once just a small gathering of local beer enthusiasts, today the DC Beer Week is one of the biggest events on the Washington DC calendar. Originating in 2088, this festival now hosts over 180 events throughout the week including a craft beer dinner cruise and happy hours. The aim of this festival is to celebrate craft beer in Washington as well as educating participants in the process.
10. Meatopia, Randalls Island, New York: September 8th
Are you a big meat-eater? Then your idea of heaven will be Meatopia. This annual event, presented by Whole Foods takes place in New York’s Randall’s Island Park and for its ninth year there will be the most impressive offering of meat dishes and innovative chefs from all over the world. This year’s theme is “Meatopia 2012: City of Meat” which will include lots of different ‘meat neighbourhoods’ across the events from Offalwood to th Meatopia County Game Reserve. Come here hungry!
