Do you travel with a WiFi enabled device? Going to Amsterdam? Want to know where you can log on to the world wide web without paying for the privilege? Read on...
1. Bagels and Beans, Keizersgracht 504
My favourite place for breakfast in Amsterdam also has free WiFi. Every time I go to Amsterdam I begin the day with a 'Breakfast 1' for less than €6 (bagel, juice and cappucino - good value), a check of my emails and a gaze along the canal, being thankful I'm in the Dutch capital.
Open Mon-Fri 8.31am-5.59pm, Sat and Sun 9.01am-6.02pm.
2. Cafe Fonteyn, 13-15 Nieuwmarkt
This 'brown café' on one of Amsterdam's best-known squares is open since 1727. After taking advantage of the free WiFi indoors you can people-watch outdoors on its terrace.
Open daily from 10am-1am (3am Fri and Sat).
3. Le Pain Quotidien, Corner Troostplein 4, De Pijp
Part of a chain that can be found everywhere from Australia to the US of A, Le Pain Quotidien is famous for its communal tables in the middle of their cafés. So if you find something interesting on the web using their free WiFi you can tell the person beside you.
Open daily 8am-6pm.
4. McDonald's, various locations
Like or loathe the golden arches, if you're in need of free WiFi it's good to know that McDonald's offers it. They can be found in different locations, but if you leave the train station a bit lost and in need to access a map on your device, it's good to note that there's one on Damrak - the street facing you as you leave the main station.
Opening hours vary from location to location.
5. Café Saarein, Elandsstraat 119, Centrum
Just south of the Jordaan neighbourhood, Café Saarein is another brown café offering free access to the internet.
Opendaily from 11am-1am.
That's right - stand on this canal and look for the network 'Free WiFi for all' and you'll be able to pick up free WiFi on the street without buying a coffee, sandwich or anything else.
7. The Tara Irish Bar, Rokin 85-89, Centrum
You can count on Irish bars for many things - conversations with the bar staff, meeting other Irish people and enjoying meals like 'Shepherd's Pie' and 'Irish Stew'. In this Irish bar you can add free WiFi to the list.
Open Mon-Thurs 10am-1am, Sat and Sun 10am-3am, Sun 11am-1am.
8. Coffee Company
Like Bagels and Beans, Coffee and Company can be found all over Amsterdam. My advice is to go for a coffee in the one on Berenstraat overlooking the square known as Spui (pronounced 'Spow'). Make sure not to throw away your receipt though - this has the username and password for the free WiFi.
Open Mon-Fri 7.30am-7am, Sat 8.30am-7pm, Sun 9am-7pm.
9. Belushi's Bar, Warmoesstraat 129, Centrum
Part of St Christopher's Hostel, voted most popular hostel in Amsterdam by our customers earlier this year, this is an extremely lively bar on the busy Warmoesstraat
Opening daily 10am-1am (Fri and Sat until 3am).
10. Cafe Krull, Sarphatipark 2, De Pijp
Another location in the 'De Pijp' neighbourhood, if you want to update your status after picking up a treat for yourself in the Albert Cuyp Markt, this is a good option.
Open Mon-Thu 9am-1am, Fri-Sat 9am-3am, Sun 10am-1am.
