10 places not to miss in Brazil

There aren’t many countries in the world that can boast what Brazil does. It’s home to some of the world’s most exciting cities, there are tranquil islands where you can bask in sunshine, the Amazon is on your doorstep for treks that you’ll never forget and you really haven’t lived until you’ve been to a football game there. The food is amazing, the people are friendly, the partying is like nowhere else – we love Brazil, we know you do too.

Ten reasons why I love Australia

I’ve a soft spot for Australia for a very special reason... this was the country that first introduced me to backpacking. If it wasn’t for Australia I wouldn’t have the job I have now… travelling around the world making videos, recording podcasts, gathering content for our free pocket guides and more. I love Australia so much in fact, that I’ve decided to put together a list of ten reasons why I love the country I once called home.

  3. Hidden Dublin - A Hostelworld Hangout with Darragh Doyle and Emily Cunnane

Recently our friends at Gadventures.com asked me to host a live Google Hangout, also known as a 'Hangout on air', as part of a 'Virtual Tour of Dublin'. For this I decided that rather than a talk about things about Dublin that most of us know, it would be more interesting to have a chat about 'Hidden Dublin'.

In case you hadn’t heard, 2013 is the year of The Gathering Ireland. Think of it as an island-wide, year-long party that’s choc-a-bloc with local festivals ranging from whacky beard gatherings to film fests and toe-tapping traditional music sessions. And wouldn’t you know it, Dublin City has gone and caught festival fever.

  5. Budapest ruin bars

Ruin bars are a trend that started to emerge in Budapest about 15 years ago and have become increasingly popular amongst locals and tourists. More and more frequently in every big city instead of renovating old buildings they are being abandoned and torn down to build modern high rise apartment blocks, office buildings and shopping centres in their place. The emergence of ruin bars have saved many of these old buildings in Budapest, preserving its beautiful architecture and turning them into trendy places where night owls can enjoy a few drinks and chill out in a retro ambiance.

    Ten reasons I love Ireland

When I meet people from all over the world, in hostels all over the world, I love telling people I'm from Ireland. Those who have travelled to Ireland speak fondly of their memories here, while those who haven't regularly tell me it's top of their bucket list. I'm lucky enough to have seen most of the country and regularly leave my home on the east coast for other parts. This is why I know I am going to thoroughly enjoy writing the ten reasons I love Ireland because, in a nutshell, I'm proud to be Irish.
