Two of the coolest areas in terms of nightlife here in Ottawa have to be 'The Glebe' and around the Bytown Market.
Zaphod Beeblebrox, which is indeed named after the character from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, is one of the coolest bars in Ottawa. Located on York Street near Bytown Market, it offers a colourful selection of cocktails with equally colourful names such as the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. Zaphod’s also has a great variety of theme nights including Trailer Park Bingo which takes place on Sundays.
There was a great crowd in there tonight and it was a really good atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and they play a mix of everything from indie to funk. If that’s not enough, this bar also serves up revolving drinks specials every night of the week.
And don’t panic, even if you can’t remember where your towel is they’ll still let you in. (insider 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' gag - Ed)
The Glebe is a neighbourhood that’s walking distance from downtown Ottawa and is definitely the place to go after you’ve had a few drinks in a couple of the numerous establishments dotted around the Bytown Market area.
Babylon and Barrymore’s Music Hall are two of the city’s most popular clubs and they’re located quite close to each other on Bank Street. From live DJs to live bands, you’ll hear plenty of tunes that’ll have you out on the dance floors here. Babylon offer some great drinks specials, while Barrymore’s often show movies on the giant screen hanging up over one corner of the dance floor.
Tomorrow I’m going to leave the HI-Ottawa Jail Hostel early to get a head start on my filming and to check out all the attractions the Canadian capital has to offer.
