My first game drive last Friday began at 12 noon. As you should know, this is when the day is hottest. Because of this, the chances of seeing animals are slim as they’re hiding away in the shade somewhere, most of them asleep.

After the visit to Emdoneni Lodge last Saturday afternoon, we made it back to St Lucia for around 6pm. I began watching the Ireland game against France in the Six Nations - we were beaten quite badly, unfortunately.

Last Saturday, as part of the 3-day trip I was doing with Tekweni Ecotours, I went on a boat trip on the St Lucia Lake. It’s part of the St Lucia Wetland Park, which was the first place in South Africa to become a World Heritage listed site.

Before last Friday (12th February) I’d never been on a ‘game drive’ (safari) around a ‘game reserve’ before. For those of you unaware of what that is, it’s where you get into a 4x4 vehicle and go driving in a reserve.
