I had a great last full day in Pisa today. Well, in Pisa and Lucca, the town where I spent half the day. Lucca is an awesome little town and it's about 25 minutes from Pisa by train.
It's surrounded by old and imposing town walls and inside the fortification you'll find winding streets, pretty piazzas, lots of shops and a great selection of bars and restaurants. A really great place to spend a good chunk of a day, and I'm really glad I took the time to head out there. The train journey is pretty cool too, because you get to see the mountains and the Tuscan countryside, which is really beautiful.
Tonight I had the most delicious meal I've had since I've been here in Ristorante Turiddo on Via Domenico Cavalca. I stumbled across it after making a wrong turn onto one of Pisa's many narrow streets and I'm really glad I did. Had this delicious ravioli dish with a porcini mushroom sauce, a giant basket of bread and a pretty substantial portion of tiramisu for dessert. I left a very happy customer because it was really good value too!
Got some night shots around the Tower too, which was cool. Have to say though, my favourite thing about today (other than the food) was standing on the Ponte di Mezzo and watching the sun set over the Arno. A gorgeous sight.
