Today is the day before Ash Wednesday which makes it Shrove Tuesday aka…Pancake Tuesday! It’s the one day of the year when people all over the world dig into pancakes. So whether you're in a hostel or at home and you fancy making some, here’s our basic recipe...
You will need:
- 100g of plain flour
- A pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- 300ml of milk
- 1 tablespoon of melted butter or sunflower oil
Method:
To make the mix: First of all sift the flour into a mixing bowl, making a well in the middle. Crack the egg right into the well, and then add the melted butter/sunflower oil and half the milk. Slowly mix the liquid into the ingredients until it’s all mixed and then beat into a batter. Now stir in the remaining milk.
To make the pancakes: Heat a small frying pan with oil until it’s very hot. Cover the surface with the mix and cook until it looks dry on the top. Flip the pancake over and voila!
What you do with the pancake next is up to you. Some like them sweet, others like them savoury. We’ll leave that up to you.
