Thousands of women are all set to take to the streets of Dublin on Monday, June 6th for the annual Flora Women’s Mini Marathon. As you may or may not know, our HQ is located in the Irish capital and one of our own, Gillian, is taking part in this important event.
On the go since 1983, the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon is the biggest women-only event of this kind in the entire world. Lasts year’s winner was Linda Byrne (pictured here). Women of all different ages and walks of life take to the streets of Dublin in droves every year for the race.
Whether running, jogging or walking, these women take part in order to support a huge range of charities operating in Ireland and around the world, including well-known charities like Concern. Covering a challenging 10 kilometres, the course starts at Fitzwilliam Square and ends at St. Stephen’s Green. This year the race starts at 3pm so if you’re in the area, why not head on down and cheer on the participants.
Opting to spend her bank holiday Monday participating in this mini marathon, Gillian is raising money for the Irish Cancer Society. She hopes to speed walk her way to the finish line, beating the previous walking record of 10 kilometres in 1 hour 27 minutes. If you’d like to support Gillian’s efforts, check out her charity page to find out what the Irish Cancer Society does, why Gillian picked them and more.
Good luck to Gillian and everyone else taking part in the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon from everyone here at Hostelworld.com!
