Close to both Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls, you’ll find the Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate Winery which is open all year round for people to go and check out. Today, I visited with Emma, Luke and Max from ACBB Hostel and I’d really recommend the trip.
This winery offers a guided tour for a mere $5, and on this 45-minute tour you get to see wine production from vineyard to bottle. It’s a really impressive set-up as the facility is very modern and the staff clearly know their stuff. Plus, you can taste some of their wines too and the prices for these tastings range from $1 to $3, which is also amazing value.
One of the things Canada, and specifically Ontario, is notable for is its production of ice wine. This is wine that’s been made from grapes which have been frozen while they were still on the vine. It’s a sweet wine, and today I sampled some of the white ice wine that Jackson-Triggs produce.
I’m not a drinker and I’ve never been a big fan of wine at all, but this stuff I liked a lot. It’s a very sweet wine without the bitter taste you sometimes get, and the one I tried today was fruity as well. Apparently there’s a high sugar content in it and it’s often used as a dessert wine, so anyone who knows me really won’t be surprised that I found it quite tasty.
From tours to tastings, Jackson-Triggs really do offer affordable wine experiences and if you’re in the Niagara Falls area, you should definitely try to check them out.
