One of the top attractions here in Ottawa is the Rideau Canal which was built back in the early 1800s and stretches from Ottawa to Kingston at Lake Ontario.
Today I recorded a podcast about this 202-kilometre long canal with Pam and Paul from Parks Canada.
Before the interview, I had a wander around the Ottawa lockstation area of the canal and took a lot of pictures like the one you can see here.
When I spoke to Pam, I learned that the canal’s construction was overseen by Lieutenant Colonel By, the man who’s credited with the foundation of the town which became Ottawa. During the interview, I also found out about all the things you can do at the canal.
Some of these activities include biking, kayaking or simply strolling along by the water. During the winter, a section of the canal becomes a hugely popular skating rink and on top of all that, a couple of really popular festivals are held around the canal throughout the year.
If you’re heading to Ottawa, you should check out the Rideau Canal as it’s definitely one of the top things to see here in the city.
