Boasting stunning architecture and its famous canals, Venice is a firm favourite with our TripAdvisor community of travellers, coming 6th in the world in TripAdvisor’s 2013 Travellers’ Choice Destinations Awards*.

    Venice is a historical city where travellers can take a gondola ride down its maze of canals or wander through its many passageways. And for those looking to experience the wonderful food on offer in but keen not to break the bank, we have pulled together a list of the top Venice restaurants ideal for the budget conscious traveller**.     1. Bacaro Osteria Barababao, Salizzada San Canzian

    A favourite with the locals, this restaurant serves traditional and authentic Italian food.

    3. Antico Forno, 970 Sestiere San Polo

    Located close to the rialto market, Antico Forno is a pizza pit-stop offering top-quality ingredients and substantial deep-dish slices.

    Based in Santa Croce, this restaurant offers the traditional pizza and pasta that Italy is famed for and boasts 50 different pizza choices.

    A hole-in-the-wall wine bar in the eastern suburbs, El Refolo offers great sandwiches and filled rolls, and a very small and ever-changing selection of pasta dishes.

    6. Quanto Basta, 148 Cannaregio

    Located in the famous, historical and bustling Cannaregio neighbourhood, this restaurant serves high quality traditionally homemade food including pizza, kebabs, gelato (ice-cream), cakes and chocolate.

    7. Impronta Café, Crosera

    This restaurant offers traditional Italian food and also boasts a daily menu which is every changing for visitors who return and want to try something new.

    8. Fritto Frutta, 220 Fondamenta dei Tolentini

    Offering a unique style of food, Fritto Frutta serves more than 25 different kinds of fried food including fish, vegetables, cheeses and meat.

    “Something a little different to eat for lunch or a snack. Delicious, inexpensive and what a friendly little place. We went there twice in three days!”

    “Amazing food and selection, really friendly service, easy to find location. It was the best food we found in Venice and also by far the cheapest.”

    9. Pizza 2000, Campo Sant_Agostin - San Polo

    Open until late at night, this pizzeria serves a large range of good value pizzas in the San Polo area.

    “We were staying in a nearby apartment complex and stumbled upon this excellent Pizzeria. There is a HUGE choice of pizzas, they are cooked fresh, were really tasty and good value.”

We ordered two slices of humunguos pizza and thought the lady had only charged me for one when I got my change!!     “We happened to stumble on this little place on our way back to our hotel to escape the crowds near Rialto and San Marco. We grabbed a quick Columbo sandwich that was fresh, delicious and filling and it only cost around 7 Euros for two sandwiches. Definitely make your way here to grab a fabulous lunch!”
