Of all the top attractions in Chicago, there is one I think I was looking forward to see more than any else. This is ‘Cloud Gate’, aka ‘The Bean’. Apparently the locals didn’t like it when it was first revealed. They soon came round though and now are extremely proud of their kidney-bean shaped landmark.
‘The Bean’ can be found in Millennium Park. It isn’t the biggest park in the world, but there is lots to see there. First you’ll come across the unique Crown Fountain with it’s take on gargoyles in fountains. Another top attraction here is the Wrigley Square and Millennium Park Monument which nods its head to the founders of the park.
Also, make sure not to miss The Great Lawn and the Jay Pritzker Pavillion. It’s the best place to chill out in the park and the pavillon is breathtaking.
From here I walked up Chicago’s ‘Magnificent Mile’ – a part of Michigan Avenue between East Lake Shore Drive to the north and the Chicago River to the south. It’s the city’s main shopping drag so where to go if you’re looking for a present for yourself – you know you deserve one ;-)
