Of all of Baltic Europe’s capitals, Rîga is the one which feels most like a big city. Founded in 1158, it almost has a population of one million people. When it was first growing as a city it was inhabited mainly by Germans. Today, as well as Latvian culture, German and Russian culture is very prominent in day to day life.
