Shrooming in Amsterdam 2007

Description: Perhaps you have heard that drugs such as marijuana, hash, and mushrooms are legal in Amsterdam. Well, it is more of a don't ask don't tell and I'll look the other way mentality, and that has been adopted as the norm here.

Shrooming in Amsterdam
January 6th 2006, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Perhaps you have heard that drugs such as marijuana, hash, and mushrooms are legal here in Amsterdam. That is sort of true. The way I understand it to be, laws here in Amsterdam permit the authorities to look the other way. They know what's going on but they just choose not to acknowledge it. For example in order to sell you have to be licenced and in order to obtain a drug licence there needs a government panel to oversee what is going on. Unnofficially these drugs are deemed as o.k. by the Holland government.
So, the verdict is that drugs are semi-legal here. When is this going to stop? Hopefully never and hopefully the world stops global warming so Amsterdam doesn't become a modern day Atlantis and be covered by ocean water. Reference: (watch the Al Gore movie documentary An Inconvenient Truth) In the meantime, Holland is host to a great hubub of people from around the world who voluntarily agree to Dutch law and custom once they set foot on Dutch soil. It is the most ecclectic place in the world at the dawn of the 21st century. It is incredible and almost unbelievable the amount of cultures and races living in harmony here. The irony around this peaceful city is that most have been drawn to Amsterdam and Holland by the relaxing of natural drug laws. And now everybody can live in peace together. Hmm. In many places peace is still missing. Is this the solution? Holland seems to think so.
But Holland only deems natural drugs to be safe and therefore semi-legal. Even though mushrooms are a mind-altering drug, they are still natural. By natural I mean not chemical or man made. Mushrooms have been experimented with for centuries. In the past they were used by many cultures as a right of passage into the adult world. Mushrooms provide the user with an extremely intense experience and with the more potent mushrooms, one can shaman-out and connect with life forces around one self and at times even halucinate. It is a very mind opening experience to do shrooms and there are many different types of shrooms available in Amsterdam each of which has a different potency level. These shrooms are either live mushrooms kept in little refridgerators or dried shrooms kept behind the bar. They are munchable and ingested orally. Examples of shrooms I have found here in Amsterdam include Colombian, Mexican, Amazonian, Thai, Liberty Caps , and Copelandia. I was told that a mushroom is just a poison that is strong enough to disrupt your system but weak enough not to kill you or injure you. Although freebasing is not recommended. I am sure long term and constant abuse could lead to poor liver problems just like alcohol would. But 1 or 2 times shrooming in Amsterdam isn't going to kill you. It might actually provide you with just the answers in life you are looking for.
