By asterisk
Description: I spent a week in les 2 alpes, and even though skiing turned out to be a lost cause for me, there was still lots of other possibilities for fun!

"Im good at other things...."
February 22nd 2007, Les 2 Alpes, France

After narrowly catching the bus in time, I set off for les 2 alpes with a random group of Danish university students, with whom I knew noone. Of course I became quite famous almost instantly, being the girl who almost missed the bus, and also being an international with the most unfortunate name. You see...when my name is pronounced in Danish (which is very different than how it is pronounced in english) it becomes a derogatory word for breasts. So needless to say...I was instantly famous. The bus ride took about 25 hours, and we arrived at the ski resort around 10 am. Unfortunatly we were not allowed to check into our apartment until 5 pm, so I spent the day with two of my apartment mates who I was to become good friends with over the trip.

I spent my time skiing with a Danish flat mate, Suna, who is an incredibly fun girl. We were both at about the same level (oh who am I kidding....shes ten times better than me). I spent three days skiing (well mostly I spent those days going up the hill, then relaxing in the sun, and then going back down the hill without actually sking) until I came to the realization that you know...Im good at other things...I dont need to be good at everything. With this thought in mind I returned my skiis. Really...it was the best decision for everyones safety.

The next few days were spent sun bathing on the balcony, hiking up the walking paths on one of the mountains, and generally relaxing. The day after I returned my skiis, Suna had a small accident and then joined me in relaxing. It was excellent. We would relax all day, and then party all night at one of the resort bars.

By the end of the trip I had earned myself quite the repution....combine drunkenly dancing on top of tables with having a very unfortunate name...and I think you can understand. But I had the time of my life anyways. And I came out of the trip with two new friends who I appreciate very much.

Accommodation
Name: Flocon d'or
Type: Hotel
Rating: Satisfactory
Atmosphere: Relaxed
Value: Satisfactory
Location: Far from city centre

The only problem with the flocon d'or is its unfortunate location. The town is built into a narrow valley and therefore all the new developments have to build into the mountain...and it is very steep. Luckily there are busses that run from the hotel to the city center every 15 minutes until 16:00, but after this time you are faced with the daunting task of 500 and something stairs. Luckily one night, Ania and myself were lucky enough to hitchhike with a random french man.

Other than that small complaint, the apartments are very cosy and the balconies are ideal for sunbathing.

Activities
Name: Skiing/Snowboarding
Rating: Highly Recommended
Fun: Fantastic
Value: Good Value
Stamina: High

I suck at skiing so I guess I can not write much in this section....but I can say that everyone else sure looked like they were having great fun and I lie broken and injured on the hill. heh heh I didnt injure myself...but I very well could have...and therefore quit skiing right away. :P

Top Tip:
If you are not confident in your abilities, invest in an instructor. Yes they are drastically overpriced...but then again...so is everything in les 2 alpes, so you just have to get used to it.

General Tips:
Make sure you wear sunscreen! Many of my ski companians returned to denmark with the tell tale sunglass tan lines, and they were not very happy about it!
