Your Questions Answered by the Albuquerque, New Mexico Guru

ABQ guru

I have lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the past 11.5 years -- the last several years as a graduate student. I can answer most questions about great places to eat out, see live music, run with your dog or take the kids, as well as other cool places to visit in the state (including Santa Fe, Roswell (UFO crash site), White Sands National Monument, and Native American sites).

Q: In your opinion, what is Albuquerque, New Mexico’s number one attraction?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 25th May 2006
A: There's amazing cultural diversity here, with Native American, Hispanic, and Anglo heritages all influencing the city.
Q: What else shouldn’t be missed?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 25th May 2006
A: Hiking in the Sandia Mountains, just to the east of town. You can drive to the summit, or take a tram. They're about two miles high, and provide a great view of the city and surrounding area.
Q: Is it expensive to eat out in Albuquerque, New Mexico?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 25th May 2006
A: Not at all -- or absolutely yes, depending on your tastes.
Q: What is the best part of Albuquerque, New Mexico to eat out in?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 25th May 2006
A: I love eating in either Old Town (fabulous New Mexican cuisine, often served on a shady patio with a burbling fountain), or in Nob Hill (a very diverse area near the University of New Mexico, with tons of ethnic restaurants and cool bars).
Q: Is it expensive to go out at night in Albuquerque, New Mexico?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 25th May 2006
A: No -- or yes, depending on what you'd like to do. I'm a starving graduate student, so I've nosed out lots of places to see free performances around town, especially in the summer. There's a large variety of music and theatrical venues.
Q: What is your favourite bar/club in Albuquerque, New Mexico?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 25th May 2006
A: I like to hang out on the patio at Kelly's, people watching and drinking one of the many brews they produce right there.
