Q: Hi,
My children (ages 17 and 18) and I will be in Dublin the first week of January. Do you have any suggestions or highlights we shouldn't miss? Also, what are your suggestions for appropriate weather dressing? Thank you! Kate

A: As it will be winter time in Ireland bring warm clothes! I'd also suggest a rain jacket because you never know when the next rain shower will fall!
Check out the Dublin city guide on this website for places to go and things to do, I would recommend the National Gallery, the Guinness Brewery & the Book of Kells which can be found in Trinity College...but it depends on your interests. You will find plenty of information available when you get here, however a 24hr 'Hop on Hop off' bus ticket is the best thing to get as it's a good tour around the city and its sights.
Q: my sister and I are traveling to Dublin In February, it's our first time there. Is there any advice you can give us on where to stay and what to do?

A: I would recommend that you check out the Dublin city guide on this site as it is pretty comprehensive and gives you a feel for the city.

Q: Im planning a trip (way in advance) for several friends to come to Dublin in March. We want to stay in a hostel in the city centre or very close to it two days before St. Patrick's Day and one day after. By what time should I have the reservation made to be sure we get a place to stay in Dublin? I dont want to wait too long and have every place be booked up.
Submitted By: Jess on the 20th June 2006
A: I would advise you to book now, to be honest. There is availability up in Dublin already from St. Patricks 2007 and it does get booked up quickly. At the very latest have your reservations made before Winter kicks in.
Q: what is the drinking age in Dublin?
Submitted By: sofia on the 25th May 2006
A: You can legally drink in Ireland once you are 18 and over. Some clubs/ pubs however will have an entrance age restriction of 23 yrs, but thats normally in the busier spots like Temple Bar.
Q: I would like to travel from Dublin to Balfast for the day. I have a Eurail Selectpass which includes Ireland. I know however that Northern Ireland is not covered by the pass. How do i go about getting to Belfast? What is the extra cost once i get into Northern Ireland?
Submitted By: hockeybaby on the 21st March 2006
A: The trains to Belfast run pretty regularly; check this website out for more information: www.irishrail.ie
You'll be able to buy the ticket at the train station in Dublin so there'll be no extra cost in Belfast.
Q: Have you heard much about the Abraham House hostel in Dublin? Could you give me any comments you have heard.
Submitted By: hockeybaby on the 15th March 2006
A: With regards to Abraham House or any other hostel I would suggest checking out their site on Hostelworld.com as there are customer ratings and reviews there. These reviews are added up to give an overall percentage which gives you a good indication of what the hostel is like.
