Q: In your opinion, what is Kumarakom’s number one attraction?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 3rd December 2006
A: 13kms from Kottayam, lies the sleepy little village of Kumarakom on Vembanad Lake. It offers exotic sightseeing, boating and fishing experiences. The Bird Sanctuary here is spread across 14 acres of marshy land in the shore of Vembanad Lake, a natural habitat of migratory birds and an ornithologist’s paradise. Egrets, darters, herons, waterfowl, cuckoo and migratory birds like Siberian Stork, wild duck, etc live in flocks are fascinating sight for the visitors. The village Kumarakom is the merger of mangrove forest, emerald green paddy fields and coconut groves inter spread with waterway and canals adorned with wild lily. This enchanting backwater destination has its leisure options like boating, fishing etc.
