Your Questions Answered by the Stockholm Guru

I went to Stockholm last November and had a great time. Over a four days I got to see and do a lot. The only problem was that it got dark at 4pm, Because of this, I decided to go back again this summer for a week!

Q: I'm going to be studying in Karlstad, Sweden in August until January and plan on visiting Stockholm quite a bit. If I came in for a weekend are they any hostels or hotels you would recommend?
Submitted By: naomibrown on the 20th May 2006
A: Hi,
I stayed in Ryergerfjord Hotel and Hostel which is a boat! I'd definitely recommend it. It isn't a typical hostel though ie no kitchen where you can make your own food but there is a restaurant and bar on the boat and it is in a great location. There are other hostels in Stockholm which are meant to be really good but if you don't mind eating out every night I'd definitely say think about staying on the boat (Rygerfjord). You can book it on this site. Hope this helps!
Q: When is the best time to visit Stockholm? Should I wait until the Summer months?
Submitted By: Dotty on the 24th March 2006
A: Well that depends on whether you are a summer or a winter person. I've been at many different times of the year, and in November the skies were just as blue as they were in July. It can be very, very cold though. But there's one thing you need to keep in mind - it gets dark at around 3pm in the winter (or sometimes earlier) while in summer it stays bright until almost midnight!
Q: What is your ‘insider tip’ for Stockholm?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 31st August 2005
A: If you travel to Stockholm between November and February make sure to go to a game of Bandy. It's a Scandinavian variation of ice-hockey and a great way to spend an afternoon.
Q: Is it easy to get around Stockholm?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 31st August 2005
A: You will be able to cover most of Stockholm on foot but you will need to use public transport at least once. The T-bana (Stockholm's metro) is very efficient.
Q: What is your favourite bar/club in Stockholm?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 31st August 2005
A: 'Kvarnen' in the Sodermalm district is my favourite bar. It is a traditional German beer hall, trendy bar and nightclub all in one.
Q: Is it expensive to go out at night in Stockholm?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 31st August 2005
A: Not as expensive as you may be lead to believe. I was told a pint would cost the equivalent of €8 before I went. It turns out a pint costs around €5.50. Paris is more expensive!
