A born and bread Cantabrian I love Christchurch with a passion which only becomes more obvious as I travel more. Have spent my fair share of time in nightclubs in town so can tell you where to go and if I can’t I’m sure to know someone who will. I've seen most of the unsigned music acts in town while following a friend’s band (‘Coolade’ are very cool) and been to many of the indy rock venues.
Q: In your opinion, what is Christchurch’s number one attraction?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 21st June 2006
A: The best thing about Christchurch is its easy accesibility to all things natural. We have the Port Hills which are perfect for a day trip or a romantic sunset, or the fantastic beaches at Brighton or Sumner. All these provide fantastic oppourtunities for adventure sports from surfing to paraponiting and hanggliding on the hills.

Q: What else shouldn’t be missed?

A: The strip (Oxford St) is pumping especially on Thursday (student night) and Saturday nights. It's a great place to go for a drink or a few drinks and don't miss the Holy Grail Sports Bar on the night of an All Blcks test.

Q: Is it expensive to eat out in Christchurch?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 21st June 2006
A: I'm a student what can I say? Everything is expensive! Compared to European cities, Christchurch is fairly cheap. I'd reccomend the Lone Star for a good feed and "On the Beach" at Sumner is fantastic in the evening.

Q: What is the best part of Christchurch to eat out in?

A: The Arts Centre right in the middle of Christchurch is very classy. There is often live music playing and its easily accesable for all of the main bars and the court theatre if that's your thing.

Q: Is it expensive to go out at night in Christchurch?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 21st June 2006
A: Prices aren’t too bad. There is normally no cover charge for clubs unlike in Europe and the USA. Drinks are far more expensive than the supermarket but then aren’t they always!? For an overseas traveller I would imagine Christchurch provides a very cheap night out.

Q: What is your favourite bar/club in Christchurch?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 21st June 2006
A: The Holy Grail Sports Bar is the place to be. Weather it’s for a major sporting event (this place pumps when the All Blacks are playing) or just a standard night the dance floor is always packed and playing the latest tunes (Thursday night for classic rock I think).
