I was born in the beautiful island city of Key West, Fl. I spent most of my days after school wandering the island and experiencing this laid back island life. Although I was never too interested in the bar scene which Key West is so famous for, I can tell you lots about getting away from Duval, great places to enjoy food eaten by the conchs (locals) and while I am not a lesbian myself, I have found that the friendliest visitors are either gay or gay friendly and I know a little about their scene. Q: Is it expensive to eat out in Key West, Florida?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 18th November 2006
A: This depends on where you go. If you are eating on Duval Street you will be paying for bar food most of the time. You have to remember that this is an island and therefore is going to be more expensive than other places like Miami.

Q: What is the best part of Key West, Florida to eat out in?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 18th November 2006
A: Most places are hidden and to find them ask the locals! Your bartender or waiter will most likely be able to tell you some great places.
Here are a few of my favorites...
-B.O.'s fish wagon. This place is great. I worked here for 3 months and the food is excellent, the atmosphere is funky and laid back, and the staff is hilarious! B.O.'s is a Key West landmark and they are very famous because of their fish sandwich. This is one of if not the best place to get fresh fish so try the fried fish and you won't regret it! Also, if you can make it there is a great live band that plays there every Fri. night from 6-9pm. You can find the fish wagon on the corner of Caroline and William St.
-Lobo's. Lobo's is reasonably priced and they have a great assortment of wraps to choose from. They are HUGE too so be ready to eat alot! You can find Lobo's in the Key Lime plaza hidden off of Duval and Southard Street.
-Sugar Apple. Here is a great place for vegetarians and vegans. It is on Truman and Simonton streets right by the moped shop.
-The Cafe. I've never eaten here but have heard great things about it. It is a mostly vegetarian place, but it a little more expensive that the other places. It is on Southard St right by Duval and close to Lobo's and another place....
-Mr. Z's. Mr Z's is a great place to go for a cheap slice of pizza after a night of partying. They are also on Southard street and they are open VERY late.

Q: Is it expensive to go out at night in Key West, Florida?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 18th November 2006
A: It depends on where you want to go. The upper part of Duval St. closer the southernmost point is a little less expensive and alot less crowded. The further you go in the opposite direction the higher the prices and the more people there are.

Q: What is your favourite bar/club in Key West, Florida?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 18th November 2006
A: I like going to a little Irish pub called Bogart's on the corner of Duval and Olivia. It is a comfortable place with a pool table, a juke box and lots of comfy sofas.
It you are into the gay/lesbian scene a good place to go during the day is the pool bar at Atlantic Shores resort. It is clothing optional by the pool if you want to get rid of your tan lines! Also 801 Bourbon on Duval has world famous Drag shows.
Another nice little place is Rhumbas on Duval next to Crabby Bill's.
