Top Tip: Use common sense and streets smarts when traveling (For example: Don't dress like Paris Hilton and NOT EXPECT to get robbed.) Research a destination before traveling. If you do a freewheel trip, you may end up paying a higher price because you're a "to

Even though I was born in Hollywood, CA in 1976, my family moved to the Seattle area in July of 1979. Since then I've learned ALMOST everything about the city and the area surrounding it (thanks to both the school system, local news, and my dad's avid interest in the city's history and culture). Feel free to ask ANY questions about Seattle.

Q: In your opinion, what is Seattle, WA’s number one attraction?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 19th October 2005
A: Pike Place Market, the home of the flying salmon! Unlike many of the city's attractions and events, Pike Place Market is opened year-round, and anyone can gain access to the local food and crafts. Plus you can explore it yourself for free!

Check out the official website at http://www.pikeplacemarket.org

There are tours offered, but it costs $7 for adults and $5 for senior and minors. It takes place Wednesday through Sunday from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. For more details, contact Michele Peterson at (206) 774-5249 or michelep@pikeplacemarket.org or check the website for current contact information.
Q: What else shouldn’t be missed?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 19th October 2005
A: The Seattle Underground Tour! Once upon a time, Seattle was once constantly flooded, but the city's citizens decided to fill it in and build on top of the ruins. This tour takes visitors underground and back in time to the 1890's. You will be moving around alot, so dress comfortably and casually. Website: http://www.undergroundtour.com/

The Seattle ferries. It's a cheap and easy way to sail on Puget Sound. During the hot summers (esp. the months of July and August), the cold winds off the water act as a natural air conditioner. Air conditioners and pools are uncommon in Seattle. Most of the locals have only fans in the home and go out to the local lakes and the Puget Sound to go swimming. Alki Beach is a big favorite with locals, and it can get pretty crowded during the summer months.

Q: Is it expensive to eat out in Seattle, WA?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 19th October 2005
A: Yes, it can be. Even fast food (like Subway and McDonald's) can cost you $6 or more per meal.
Q: What is the best part of Seattle, WA to eat out in?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 19th October 2005
A: In the International District, there is a market called Uwajimaya. The best Asian food in this city comes out of the deli and the many restaurants inside this place. Meals start at $4.25.

Another great place to go is Post Alley Pizza in the Pioneer Square. I went here with two roommates and we ate pizza with little more than $10. The pizza here is true New York style.
Q: Is it expensive to go out at night in Seattle, WA?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 19th October 2005
A: Yes. In my opinion, the nightlife in this city is very subdued and expensive for what you get. Then again, my version of nightlife is Las Vegas, Tokyo (Japan), New York City, and Los Angeles.
Q: What is your favourite bar/club in Seattle, WA?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 19th October 2005
A: For the last few years, bars and clubs here have been lacking socially. Most people seem to go in, get a drink, and leave as if they're in a McDonald's drive thru. In years past, the bars used to be like Irish pubs, but those days are long gone.
