I have lived in Swansea for 19 years, and have spent most of that time at the beach and out in the countryside around the city. On the other hand, I have spent much of my time in the city where there are live bands every month and great bars and clubs! Ask Jomni a question

I was born in Iowa and have spent the last 6 months studying in Wales. While my study was a short half year I made the most of my experience by meeting locals and hanging where the locals hang. The best beach to surf at is Llangeneth with two local surf schools offering cheap lessons. If one is a pro then local shops offer equipment to rent or buy boards, suits, shoes and the highest in surfing fashion. Rock climbing, biking, and hiking trails surround the Gower area outside Swansea. Besides outdoor activities, Swansea is a University community which offers student bars and clubs, as well as a wealth of good food. Everything from Mexican to Spanish, French and Italian to Chinese, as well Indian can be found within the town center. Swansea offers a decent shopping center with the basics. If shoppers are looking for cheap and useful then you\'re fine, higher fashion tastes will need to look to larger cities such as Cardiff or Bristol. But I assume I'm talking to backpackers and students who would rather a wild experience than a pricy outfit. As for culture, a basic movie theatre/bowling complex sits within walking distance of the city centre. Local museums can fill you in on the town's sea side history. Dylan Thomas has his own theatre with a good show every now and then. Indie films and theatre shows can be seen on the Swansea Uni campus as well as an interesting but youth driven Egypt centre.
