Your Questions Answered by the Vancouver Guru

Rebecca

I lived six months in Vancouver last year to brush up my English and to do an Internship. At my working place I met a lot of Canadians and got a good insight in the city. I just love Vancouver and can't wait to go back.

Q: Hi Rebecca, I'm thinking of travelling to Vancouver this summer to sightsee and also work then go to the ski resorts for the winter - is it difficult finding work over there (for Australians)? Thanks
Submitted By: Nicole Fisher on the 27th May 2006
A: Hi Nicole,
Sorry, but since I never worked in a ski resort in Canada I do not know how difficult it is finding work. But I assume it is not too difficult, if you are not too demanding. Did you already nquire about the visa requirements (or do you as Austalian don't need one)?
Q: Do you know any nice place to go see local/emerging bands (alternative, indie rock,...) in Vancouver? What about music show in general?
Submitted By: Vero Pomerleau on the 28th March 2006
A: Try the Commodore Ballroom - this is THE place in Vancouver to go to for concerts (national and international acts). It is located on Granville Street (between Robson and Smithe).
A good website for infos on live music in Vancouver is www.livemusicvancouver.com

A: Vancouver is very easy to get around. If you are downtown I recommend walking around as you get to see the most.
The public transport system (busses, Sky Train, SeaBus) is fantastic and easy to use.
Q: What is your favourite bar/club in Vancouver?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 21st September 2005
A: The Shine in Gastown, which is open 7 days a week. Each night is a different club night e.g. Wednesday Reggae, Thursday 80s.
Q: Is it expensive to go out at night in Vancouver?

A: If you are into clubbing it tends to be expensive, since most clubs have a cover charge.
But if you just want to go for drinks it's okay.
