For the last 10 years I have lived in Leesburg, Virginia - a suburb of Washington DC. I have been to DC many times viewing it from every aspect (historical, entertainment, restaurants, etc.). I would consider myself fairly versed in how to get around DC as well as the many attractions that are in the nations capital, and would enjoy sharing this information with the others.

Q: I have heard that U Street is a good place to go out on, particularly a bar called Stetsons but this was a while ago I got this advice. Is it still good?

A: Hey. U street can be a great place to go. Its definitely steeped in culture, near a neighborhood in DC called the Shaw District its got a lot of african american background. The area of U st. you've heard of is referred to as the U st. corridor. I've never been to stetson's, but i hear its pretty laid back. like a tex-mex place. not necessarily a bar i'd go to to get plastered or pick up the opposite sex, but a good hangout place. if you're looking for a good place to go out (personally) there are several really cool neighborhoods (depending on how much you wanna dress up and what kind of bars you're looking for. I usually go to either georgetown (take the orange line to foggy bottom and take a cab for a mile to M st. and Wisconsin) or Adam's Morgan (metro to the Woodley park metro stop.) Gtown for the more dressy places, adams morgan to get sloshed cheap. lemme know if this works for you or if you have any more questions as to specific places to check out. Later
Q: In your opinion, what is Washington DC’s number one attraction?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 11th February 2006
A: The National Mall. This area of DC contains the most famous of DC's attractions within one easily accessible area. The stretch of land connects the Smithsonian Institutions, Washington Monument, Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, etc.
Q: What else shouldn’t be missed?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 11th February 2006
A: Georgetown. Great shopping, great bars, great atmosphere, great nightlife.
Q: Is it expensive to eat out in Washington DC?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 11th February 2006
A: It doesn't have to be. As the nation's capital, DC has restaurants from all nationalities. While there are many upscale restaurants lining the streets there are also many bargains.
Q: What is the best part of Washington DC to eat out in?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 11th February 2006
A: If you have the money, Georgetown. If you don't, Adams Morgan (most cultural part of DC).
Q: Is it expensive to go out at night in Washington DC?
Submitted By: Hostelworld Moderator on the 11th February 2006
A: It shouldn't be too expensive. Transportation is very available using the metro and there are always bars with drink specials, however the more chic neighborhoods of DC (georgetown, penn quarter) can get pricey especially with cover chargers
