Austin, Texas prides itself on being the “Live Music Capital of the World” and it’s difficult to argue! Bands and artists are playing every night across the city’s numerous bars and concert venues, so check with your hostel staff for some great local music recommendations. If you’re able to visit in early spring you’ll even be able to catch the lively South by Southwest Festival that takes over the city each year.

Austin have several areas that are perfect for outdoor adventuring. Hamilton Pool is an incredible natural swimming spot, complete with an underground river and waterfalls, and if swimming is your thing then Barton Springs Pool in the city centre is connected to a naturally heated hot spring. Nearby Mount Bonnell is perfect for hiking, and you can really soak in the local beauty of the Lady Bird Lake Hike-and-Bike trail. Austin is also known for being an important cultural hub within the state of Texas, with libraries, festivals, theatres, and art installations galore. There is incredible food in the city and a thriving nightlife, and who could forget that the world famous University of Texas Longhorn American football team is based in Austin.
