About Cairo

Even though when most people think of Cairo they think of ancient civilizations and pyramids, much of Cairo is actually quite modern with wide streets. The River Nile runs through the Egyptian capital, the biggest city in the Middle East and Africa. The city also has two islands in the middle of the river. Altogether, Cairo has a population of 6.8 million approximately, with many people moving up from rural villages along the Nile. view more»

Cairo in May

It is really a nice hostel. Not big, and with really friendly staff (I definetaley would say that's the best part). They helped me preparing my trip to Upper Egypt and Alexandria and everything went just as I thought, maybe even better. No complaints at all. I only have to thank everyone in the hostel!

  • Insider tip:Hasslers everywhere in Egypt, if you just want to take a look and not to buy, don't stop in the shops. Be prepared to give tips for everything, anything or even nothing (people in the street will ask you). Go to Christian Cairo, the churches are really cool, dispite the poorness. (And if you have time, to Upper Egypt, Luxor is awesome too. A sunscreen and a bug repelent can be pretty handy too.
